General questions

  • Cano is a container rental system. Once you download the app, you’ll have access to a network of reusable containers based on your location.

    1. Scan the QR code on the container you want to borrow

    2. Validate your borrow by scanning a second QR at the cash

    3. Enjoy your food/beverage

    4. Return the container by scanning the QR code on your container

    5. Scan the QR code on the collection bin and place the container inside

    6. Earn points when you return your containers and redeem them for free food and drinks

    You have 48h to return your containers to earn points, but if you don’t want the points, you have 14 days to return the container.

  • No worries! Every user is granted one emergency return in case that happens. Simply go to the “History” tab in the menu and request an emergency return by clicking the appropriate container under the “In use” tab. It works like magic!

  • It’s completely free for users. The Cano application is free to download and borrowing containers is also free.

  • No, there are zero deposit fees.

  • Yes, absolutely! However you will only be able to borrow 1 container at a time. So make sure to return your containers within 14 days to continue using the system.

  • You only need to enter your credit card information if you sign up for Cano Pro (which is free) and allows you to borrow up to 20 containers at a time. So if you would like to borrow a cup and a food container, you’ll have to link your credit card as a promise to return the containers. If a container is not returned within 14 days you’ll be charged 10$.

  • Cano is offered at many Universities, businesses and cafes across Canada and in the US. You can find a list of all our Partners on our Partner’s page. If you would like to become a partner, please email us at info@canocompany.com

  • Not yet, but we’re working on it! Similar to borrowing a book, the idea is to collectively reuse Cano containers over and over again to reduce waste.

  • With the standard Cano account, you can borrow 1 container at a time. With Cano Pro (it’s free to upgrade), you’ll be able to borrow up to 20 containers at a time.

  • We're sorry to hear you're leaving. To delete your account, follow these steps:

    1 - Using the App:

    • Open the app and tap on 'Menu'

    • Go to 'My Profile'.

    • Select 'Delete Account' and follow the prompts.

    2 -Without the App

    • Email us at support@canocompany.com.

    • Use 'Account Deletion' as the subject.

    • Include your name and the email associated with your account.

    We'll process your request promptly. If you have any issues or further questions, feel free to reach out to us.

The returns

  • Returning a container is very easy!

    1. Empty any leftover food/beverage

    2. Scan the QR code on your container

    3. Scan the QR code on the collection bin

    4. Place the container in the bin and your done !

  • We ask users to return their containers to the same location they initially borrowed them to reduce logistics and transportation for our partners.

  • Nope! Our partners take care of cleaning the containers and making sure they are ready to be used again the next day. We do ask that you empty any leftover food before returning the containers to facilitate the cleaning process.

  • Our partners clean the containers in commercial dishwashers which minimize the amount of water and cleaning products used.

  • You have a total of 14 days to keep your container. However if you would like to collect points, you’ll have to return your container within the first 48 hours.

  • Yes of course! Who doesn’t like refills? Just follow the same steps to borrow your container.

    1. Scan the QR code on the bottom of your container

    2. Scan the QR code at the cash

    3. You’ll receive 10 points!

  • Yes, but there’s a twist. Anybody can return your Cano, however they will be the one getting the +10 points. ;)

    Psssst - That also means if you find an abandoned Cano container, bring it back to one of our collection bins. Who knows, luck might be on your side and you’ll get +10 points!

  • Of course! We really encourage you to return your Cano container in one of our collection bins even though you missed your deadline.

    By the way, we understand that mistakes are human. This is why we allow you to ask for extra days to return your container directly in the app.

The Cano points system

  • Points are our way to thank you for leading the way to a future of zero waste! With your Cano points, you can unlock cool rewards redeemable at our partners locations*:

    • 100 points = Free drink

    • 250 points = Free side

    • 500 points = Free meal

    *Rewards might vary from one partner to another.

  • There are four ways you can earn Cano points:

    • You automatically receive +100 points when you download the app (worth a free coffee at any of our partners locations!)

    • You get +10 points when you return a container within 48H in one of our collection bins.

    • You get +100 points for referring a friend to Cano – and your friend will get +100 points too! :)

    • You get +100 points when you switch to the Cano Pro version

  • You can redeem your rewards directly in the app under the “Rewards” tab. Simply click on the reward you wish to redeem and go through the usual borrowing process.

The Cano containers

  • Yes, every container can be safely washed in the dishwasher.

  • Yes, every container is microwave safe.

  • Our Cano cups are made of co-polyester to provide optimal durability, prevent stains, and keep your hot beverage warm longer.

    Our food containers are made of plastique numéro 5 (PP5) and are fully recyclable in the blue bin.

  • Our cups are broken down and repurposed while our food containers can be recycled.

  • If a container you borrowed is broken, please return it as you would usually do and notify us with a picture of your container at support@canocompany.com.

    We will then make sure to remove the container from distribution.

  • If a QR code is worn out, please take a picture and notify us at support@canocompany.com. You can then return the container in one of our collection bins as you would normally do, but without scanning any QR code. We will take care of finalizing your return.

Cano for a Partner

  • Cano can help your business save money on packaging costs while also gaining customer loyalty and earning points for sustainability certificates for your ESG reports. We will provide you with all the necessary marketing materials, collection bins, containers and training for the solution to be integrated smoothly. Your customers will be able to borrow Cano containers for free, while you save on packaging costs associated with single use containers.

  • Instead of using disposable packaging, your customers can ask to be served in Cano containers. They’ll be able to reduce their environmental footprint as well as earn rewards.

  • We offer 16oz cups as well as different sizes of food containers. There are snack sized, single serving, double compartments and triple compartments. You can download our products portfolio here

  • Cano's service operates with a cost per use. You will be billed monthly based on the number of Cano container borrowings. The costs are on average 60% cheaper than the one-time costs of disposable packaging!

  • Your team is responsible for washing the containers. We recommend using a high-temperature dishwasher and place the container at a 160-degree angle in a peg dish rack for thorough sanitation.

  • Please notify us directly at support@canocompany.com or reach out to your account manager. We’ll make sure to collect them and send you a new ones to replace the broken ones.

  • We’re a team, which means Cano is there for you each step of the way. We’ll provide you with support before, during, and after the launch phase with all the material needed, operational guidelines, employee training, marketing tools and launch activations to make sure the implementation goes smoothly.
